The role

What the role actually is

The Louisville Thunder is AdaptLou's adult wheelchair basketball team. We have a roster, chairs, a gym and a schedule. What we need is someone to run the room.

  • Run practice on Sunday and Thursday evenings, 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at Berrytown Recreation Center
  • Set the season plan and the practice structure
  • Lead the bench on game days
  • Work alongside team volunteers and staff
  • Season runs October through March

Qualifications

What you do not need

  • You do not need to have played wheelchair basketball
  • You do not need to have used a wheelchair
  • You do not need to know the classification system
  • You do not need a coaching certification before you start

We are looking for someone who is high character, high energy, and loves the game of Basketball !

We have got you

What we will teach you

  • How chair skills change spacing, screens and defensive rotation
  • The classification system and how it shapes a lineup
  • NWBA rules and where they differ from stand up basketball
  • How to run a practice across a wide range of ability

No surprises

The honest part

This is a volunteer role. There is no stipend. It is a real commitment: Sunday evenings for six months, plus game days.

Before you can coach, the NWBA requires a background check, SafeSport certification, and coach registration. We will walk you through all three, but it takes time, so the sooner you raise your hand the better.

We would rather tell you this now than in week six.
